Course aims/who is it for?

This course is designed to take your overall knowledge and skills to the next level to enable you to better manage and maintain complex mobile hydraulic systems with a range of controls. Ensuring that you know the causes of failure in hydraulic systems and apply the necessary preventative measures and know the procedures to follow to carryout effective fault diagnosis.

Designed for those involved in the maintenance, management and servicing of all types of mobile plant associated with: construction, agriculture, mechanical handling, highway maintenance and many more

This extended knowledge will enable staff to better maintain and manage Mobile Hydraulic Systems and carryout their duties, following safer working procedures, communication skills will be improved and with this further level of knowledge and understanding Staff will work together with greater synergy

Course Objectives (Knowledge Based)

On completion of this course candidates will know:

1) The embedded principles assocaited with the operation of mobile plant.
2) The relationship between prime mover power and performance associated with hydraulic power transmission
3) The general layout of a closed hydrostatic transmission system
4) The principles of hydrosatic steering systems
5) The auxiliary pumps and associated controls in use.
6) The types of multi-function mobile valves and control features
7)The types of auxiliary flow control devices in common use
8) The basic principles of machine braking and cooling systems.
9)The principle of load holding and motion control
10) The procedures to follow to carry out effective fault diagnosis
11) The importance of contamination control
12) Have a greater insight to health and safety

Course Objectives (Skills Based)

during the practical sessions of this course candidates will engage and apply the following skills:

1) Build hydraulic circuits by interpreting a hydraulic circuit drawing.
2) Set pressure control valves for relief, sequence, reducing and counterbalance functions.
3) Connect the electrical interface to the hydraulic controls using manual switches and pressure switches.
4) Apply hydraulic and electrical sequencing techniques
5) Apply load holding techniques.
6) Apply steering techniques
7) Use fault finding techniques applying FCR to real circuits.
