An Introduction to Functional Safety for Fluid Power

The concept of functional safety is not new. For example, we regularly see dual channel interlocks and light curtains on guards, safety PLCs and monitored contactors. Fluid power presents hazards just as electrical energy does. However, these risks are often not dealt with equally. In many cases it can only take a single fault in a fluid power system to expose a user to hazards. In this quick introduction, we will introduce the concepts of functional safety and redundancy and how it relates to fluid power.

BALLUFF Speakers - Richard Neill, Operation Marketing Manager & Martin Sharman, Product & Application Specialist

    11:45am – 12:30pm

Condition Monitoring – Let’s Talk Solutions

Imagine knowing at an early stage which machine or component in your plant could cause problems.

Condition monitoring systems and their components contribute to the efficient and trouble-free operation of machines and plants in industry.  Richard Neill discusses solutions to detect and monitor the maintenance needs of existing machines and equipment with real-time feed back to Operators.  By Integrating Condition Monitoring into the plant’s operations, companies can benefit from increased efficiency, reduced downtime and costs.

VOITH Speaker - Simon Kemp, UK Sales Engineer

    2:00pm – 2:45pm

The Future Intelligent Servo Pump Variable Speed Drives

Servo pump pumps combine the advantages of hydraulics and servo mechanics Servo pumps control the pressure or the volume flow. They precisely convert electrical energy into the hydraulic energy that is currently needed in the system. The classic use of valves for control can be either completely or partially omitted.

This considerably simplifies every hydraulic system, whilst you can save up to 70 % more energy over conventional hydraulic systems.
