- 1 day course
- Course times are 8:45am – 4pm or as arranged by your tutor (please be on site at the NFPC for 8:30am)
- Training at the NFPC will consist of 1 Day hands-on practical training
- During the workshop you will gain experience using SIEMENS Step 7 or Mitsubishi – The course will be based on one of these systems to meet your needs
- Candidates will receive a comprehensive set of course notes, light refreshments, and certificate of attendance
Who should take this course?
This one day course is designed for Mechanical Staff and all who require a down-to-earth introduction to Programmable Logic Control.
Course Objectives
This course will take away the mystery of PLCs and put you into a comfort zone. You will have a better all-round understanding of the following:
- What is a PLC?
- What are PLC capable of doing, especially associated with Fluid Power Systems?
- What basic knowledge do I require to better accept this interface technology?
Plan for the day
- 09:00 – 09:30: Coffee, registration and introduction
- 09:30 – 10:00: Backup procedures, creating & saving the program
- 10:00 – 10:45: Wiring and checking the inputs & outputs
- 10:45 – 11:00: Coffee/tea break
- 11:00 – 12:30: Making the PLC do what I want
- 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch break
- 13:30 – 14:00: Logical fault finding & troubleshooting
- 14:00 – 14:45: Basic programming exercises
- 14:45 – 15:00: Coffee/tea break
- 15:00 – 16:30: Testing, commissioning and programming exercises
- 16:30 – 16:45: Q&A, review of the day

Once your booking has been confirmed and our bookings & customer liaison team have confirmed receipt of payment for your course, course joining instructions will be provided to you and all attendees on email which contains everything you need to know before attending the course, including course start times, directions to the NFPC and any other important information.
The National Fluid Power Centre is based at Turner Road, Worksop, Nottinghamshire S81 7AE. For nearby hotel accommodation, we have also included some helpful information here.
No, lunch isn’t provided however we will be providing light refreshments on the day. There are a number of supermarkets nearby along with fast food outlets for lunch.
For our courses that are available to book online, you will have the option at checkout to pay by Debit or Credit Card using Opayo secure payment processing, or pay by bank transfer. For existing NFPC customers who have an account with us, there is also the option to pay using Purchase Order.

The service and delivery of training by the NFPC to our offshore wind turbine technician apprentices has been outstanding. The knowledge and practical experience they gain in fully equipped, hi-tech workshops enhances the apprentices’ ability to align themselves with an essential part of their job. We have worked closely with John Savage and his colleagues to fine tune the program to give our apprentices the best possible start to understanding turbine hydraulic systems, nothing has been too much trouble. Every apprentice has been fully engaged with the training given and their feedback has been exceptional such as “Best training I’ve ever done” and “I’ve learned so much on this course”. Our experience of The NFPC has been excellent and we look forward to continuing working with John and his team and to developing our relationship with The NFPC in the near future.
