- 2-day course
- Course times are 8:45am – 4pm or as arranged by your tutor (please be on site at the NFPC for 8:30am)
- Training at the NFPC will consist of day 1 technical lectures and day 2 practical training
- Candidates will receive a comprehensive set of course notes, light refreshments, and certificate of attendance
Who should take this course?
This stage 2 course is a follow on from the Stage 1 Hydraulics and designed for those who manage and maintain machinery employing Hydraulics as part of the overall system. It is a down-to-earth course delivered by NFPC Training Engineers with a vast experience associated with fault diagnosis, fault-prevention and how to better manage systems for optimum performance. The follow-on practical fault-finding day at the NFPC, will provide the opportunity for candidates to the apply Fault-Cause Remedy approach to fault-finding: a technique that they can apply back in their place of work.
Course Objectives
Skills Based
During the practical section of this course candidates will engage in and apply the following skills:
- Checking the performance of a working circuit and recording the “norm”
- Investigating a faulty system to identify the root cause
- Carrying out effective fault-finding and Safe working procedures on a working system (FCR procedures) to rectify the fault
- Put forward recommendations for improvements
- How to complete an effective report
Knowledge Based
On completion of this course candidates will:
- Know the importance of meeting Customer’s Expectations
- Know their role in carrying out effective Fault Diagnosis and responsibility to implement preventive measures
- Know the importance of identifying the root cause and avoiding the “hit & miss”- quick fix approach
- Realise the importance of assessing their own knowledge and skills (and realising their limitations)
- Know the importance of establishing the “norm” and identifying a fault as a deviation.
- Know the step by step procedures to follow to carry out fault diagnosis and the application of fault-cause-remedy approach
- Know the symptoms associated with pending failure
- Know the causes of hydraulic hose and seal failure
- Know the problems associated with hydraulic oils in service
- Know the importance of good contamination management techniques
- Know the importance of following safe working practices at all times

No, lunch isn’t provided however we will be providing light refreshments on the day. There are a number of supermarkets nearby along with fast food outlets for lunch.
