Hydraulics Training Courses

Stage 3 Electro-Hydraulics

Duration:

4 Days (1:00pm Monday - 1:00pm Friday)

Who is it for:

This course has been designed for mechanical craftsmen, technicians, engineers and managers involved in the maintenance and design of electro-hydraulic control systems. It is also essential for Technical Sales or Applications Engineers involved in writing or interpreting proposals for electro-hydraulic systems.

Entry Requirements:

The NFPC Stage 2 Hydraulics (Industrial or Mobile) course is a pre-requisite to this course. No electrical experience is necessary or assumed; although a basic understanding of electro-hydraulic system applications would be advantageous.

Course Aims:

On completion of this course candidates will:

  • Have a good level of familiarity with the theory of electrical principles
  • Have a thorough understanding of the interactions between electrical components
  • Understand the use of electrical control components in sequential circuits
  • Be able to design and construct simple electro-hydraulic circuits
  • Be able to trace simple logic circuits through an industrial PLC
  • Know the basic operation of proportional amplifier cards
  • Be able to identify and rectify basic problems with proportional and closed-loop control systems.

Course Outline:

  • Electrical principles - fundamentals of voltage, current and resistance
  • Electrical components – sensors, relays, solenoids
  • Electronic components – resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes
  • Electrical symbols and notation – read and interpret an electrical circuit diagram
  • Operation of programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • Practical exercises – build electro-hydraulic circuits using relays and/or a PLC
  • Fundamentals of digital and analogue signals and systems
  • Sensors and transducers applied to speed, position, and pressure measurement
  • Introduction to open-loop and closed-loop control
  • Proportional valve amplifiers in electro-hydraulic systems
  • Practical exercises – using proportional valve amplifiers in open-loop and closed loop applications
