Introduction to Proportional Hydraulics

Who is it for?

Hydraulic biased, technicians, fitters, technical sales, project engineers, application engineers involved in the installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault finding of industrial hydraulic systems with proportional valves and their associated controls.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates should have attended our Stage 1 Hydraulics training course and have a good understanding of modern hydraulic systems.

Course Aims:

On completion of this course candidates will:

• Understand the function, operation, application and control of modern proportional valves
• Know the construction of proportional direction, pressure & throttle valves
• Have hands-on familiarisation with proportional valves
• Know how to read a valve datasheet
• Carry out monitoring & basic fault-finding

Course Outline:

• Identify valve characteristics, operating parameters & monitoring points for:
• Proportional pressure control valves
• Proportional flow control valves
• Proportional directional control valves
• Read & understand valve datasheets
• Understand the effects of flow forces & the need for spool position feedback
• Understand the relationship between flowrate and pressure drop
• Know the function & characteristics of pressure compensators
• Recognise the symbols for proportional valves
• Have an appreciation of the different spools available for proportional directional valves, and their uses
• Carry out workshop practicals:
• Investigate directional control valve pressure drops
• Investigate ramps to improve performance
• Compare the performance of non-feedback, feedback and servo/proportional valves
• Monitor & fault-find a proportional system

Proportional Hydraulics 2 (PH-2) - “Electronic Controls for Proportional Hydraulics”
